Connections
Connection is about the linking, joining of people or things. This is a huge reason for why Engage-Reality exists. We live in a society that embraces individualism. At first glance that seems very positive – God crafted us all to be uniquely us. But without community and without connectedness we become self-focused and self-absorbed. That is not at all what God purposed for us, as a matter of fact he said it is not good for us to be alone (see Genesis 2:18).
Not only are we created to be connected but as Christians we are gifted to serve (see 1 Peter 4:10). You know the stuff you are really good at – organization, encouragement, teaching, giving money, mercy – we aren’t meant to keep that stuff to ourselves or use it for our benefit.
And we are not to be confined within the church walls. Remember we are salt, and when there is too much salt in one place, it’s not so good! So that is what the connection pages are all about; to connect you to a community of people that are already doing good things. All you have to do is join in!
How did we choose? If you have come this far on our site, you have an idea of what we are passionate about – the abused, the marginalized. I don’t think we chose the issues, I think they chose us. When we connected with people, their suffering was felt in every area of our lives. Shane Claiborne said it best in The Irresistible Revolution:
"Don't choose issues; choose people. Fall in love with a group of people who are marginalized and suffering, and then you won't have to worry about which cause you need to protest. Then the issues will choose you."
So fall in love with people. See them as valuable as God does, and without any agenda - listen, serve, and love them. And send us an email of your journey!
