Engage-Reality

Dare to Engage in the Reality of Others...

Mission Statement:

Engage-Reality is dedicated to promoting an awareness of and educating the public about social issues.  In bringing about awareness, we hope to ignite a passion among individuals and the local community to seek ways to make positive changes in these issues.  Engage-Reality will offer educational resources and direct those seeking to make a difference by connecting them with hands-on opportunities to meet needs.

Core Purposes:

Engage-Reality is dedicated to exposing the myths of social injustice issues. Through public awareness, education, and collaboration we are committed to:

  • ending the silence of the issues that are often misunderstood
  • raising awareness of issues’ prevalence and consequences
  • reducing stereotypes and stigmas of individuals struggling in these issues
  • challenging others to compassionate action in combating issues
  • connecting people with educational and local resources that will lead to avenues of service
  • communicating the biblical truth that we must act on behalf of those who suffer and are oppressed

Core Values:

  1. We believe the bible is clear in its teachings that as Followers of Christ we are to oppose injustice, care of the oppressed and act with justice and mercy.
  2. We believe we are created in Christ Jesus to do good works and impact our world with a revolutionary love.
  3. We believe that awareness and education will challenge individuals to question the false beliefs behind social issues.
  4. We believe that indifference is our biggest enemy. However, through education we can promote understanding and respect that will ultimately lead to social transformation.
  5. We believe that transformation does not end with awareness but transformation requires action.
  6. We believe when a community learns of their resources it brings empowerment to those who struggle as well as those who desire to make a positive impact.

The church has become awkwardly silent on suffering.  As Christians, if an issue is too hard, too painful, or uncomfortable we don’t deal with it - leave it up to the outside agencies or even government to cover the symptoms.  Too often we stop at “just pray about it,” when prayer is a step (or several!) in the long process of healing.  We have to get to the root of suffering.  But to get to the root we have to go beyond facts (what is obviously true about a person’s situation).  We have to get where they are…their story, their reality.  As Christians we have precious things to give away…hope, mercy, justice and purpose.  That is so simple to give to someone, but we have to go beyond the facts and engage in their reality.
